Studying overseas is a great way to develop a broader view of the world, but moving to a new country can be quite a shock and you may feel homesick at first. This is completely normal; many students who move away from home to study feel the same. There are many ways you can help yourself to stop feeling homesick and the staff at Leeds City College will do all they can to help you.
The following advice can help you during your stay in Leeds:
- Keep in touch with your family and friends.
- Get involved with college activities and societies.
- Make friends with other international students; they understand what you are going through.
- The welcome induction and international student events can help you to make friends.
- Find someone you trust that is willing to listen to your problems and offer you advice.
- Visit your local market or restaurant where you can buy foods from your home country.
- Bring some pictures of your family and friends.
- Join a social networking site; Leeds is a big city so there will be plenty of other students from your home country nearby.
